Just a crew of design nerds who happen to care a lot about the planet
Back in 2018, three of us were sitting in a Vancouver coffee shop, sketching building designs on napkins and complaining about how most new constructions ignored their environmental footprint. That's literally how this started.
We've spent years working at big-name firms where sustainability was more of a checkbox than a priority. Got tired of that approach real quick. So we figured, why not do it ourselves? Create spaces that actually work WITH nature instead of against it. Sounds idealistic, maybe it is, but seven years later we're still here and the planet needs us more than ever.
What makes us different? We don't just slap some solar panels on a roof and call it green. Every project starts with understanding the land, the climate, the local ecosystem. We've walked through old-growth forests at dawn to understand light patterns. We've sat in buildings for hours just feeling how air moves through spaces. Yeah, our families think we're a bit obsessive.
Buildings shouldn't cost the earth to exist on Earth. We're pushing for net-zero designs that don't compromise on aesthetics or functionality. Every structure we create should give back more than it takes.
Honest design, transparent processes, and buildings that make people feel good. We believe architecture should improve lives while respecting the environment. No greenwashing, no shortcuts, just genuine commitment to doing better.
Founded Jade Flare X in a tiny office above a bike shop. Our first project was a 900 sq ft laneway house that ended up winning a local sustainability award. We were shocked, honestly.
Landed our first big commercial project - a 15,000 sq ft office building in Richmond. Spent countless nights figuring out how to make it LEED Platinum without blowing the budget. We did it though.
Moved into our current West 8th Avenue space and expanded to 15 team members. Every new hire has to share our obsession with sustainable design - no exceptions.
Named one of BC's top sustainable architecture firms. Cool moment, but also a reminder that we've got to keep pushing boundaries. Can't get comfortable.
Working on 23 active projects across BC. Each one's a chance to prove that sustainable architecture doesn't have to be boring or expensive. We're just getting started.

Whether you've got a full brief or just an idea on a napkin (we love those), let's talk about creating something that matters.
